A special and massive vote of gratitude and appreciation to the ABA Training Endorsement Subcommittee team for their work over the past two years. The team made up of Cindy Aulby, Robyn Fernance and Ann Harrison put together the process to have individual Breathwork Schools Breathwork Trainings endorsed by the ABA.

Breathwork Practitioner Training has a minimum of 450 hours of theory and experiential work to ensure a sound standard is maintained to enable quality care of Breathwork Clients. This Standard was developed over years of working with the Elders of the Breathwork community in Australia and follows the requirements of the International Breathwork Foundation and Global Professional Breathwork Alliance for Practitioner Training in Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB).

In 2018, 12 ABA Breathwork trainers, from 10 Breathwork schools/colleges within Australia, made application to have their practitioner trainings endorsed, from which the ABA endorsed all 10 Australian Breathwork Practitioner Trainings

What does this mean?
  • It means that he ABA has worked with our global community to define training standards, in order to increase the professional standard of Breathwork within the broader community
  • It means that the endorsed trainers have delivered Breathwork Practitioner Training that meets the minimum standards set up by the ABA Training Standards.
  • It means that Breathwork Practitioners seeking to join the ABA can be received automatically in the knowledge they have undertaken training that meets the minimum requirement.
  • It means that there is a way for the public to be able to easily understand which Breathwork Practitioner Trainings meet the minimum requirements that have been so well developed by the global Breathwork community.

The term “Breathwork” is an umbrella term for so many forms and uses of the breath. This may be creating confusion for the public looking to commence their journey into conscious connected Breathwork as a Practitioner. The ABA Training Standards and endorsement process distinguishes between training in the various forms of conscious connected breathing and other forms of yogic, mindfulness and pranayama type breath work.

In addition there is progress at the moment with the ABA endorsing of Group Facilitator trainings.

Graduating Practitioners seeking ABA membership
In 2019 we have received applications from three practitioners who were trained in the US and are now seeking to practice in Australia. Rather than have the applicant RPL against the ABA standards in order to be received as a Professional Breathwork Practitioner,  we approached the Breathwork School to have their trainings endorsed, therefore paving a smooth way for their graduates. Trainer Jonine Lee Gabay has also joined the Endorsemnet Subcommittee.

The invitation to trainers
The ABA recognises that there are many more trainers out there delivering Breathwork Practitioner Trainings in Australia. We would love for you gather with us and apply to have your trainings endorsed in support of Breathwork in Australia so we can strengthen the Breathwork community, support each other. All the different forms of CCB are welcome and encouraged to apply.

If you support rigorous and ethical Breathwork training and would like more information please on the ABA endorsement process please contact the ABA.
